Your Health Low GI What is Low GI? GI Eating Antony Worrall Thompson's Story

Anthony Worrall ThompsonFollowing his recent diagnosis with the pre-diabetic condition Syndrome X, celebrity chef Antony Worrall Thompson realised he needed to change his diet to preserve his health.  Facing the prospect of a difficult eating regime that would leave him starving and constantly craving forbidden foods, Antony researched the alternatives.

“I discovered GI eating”, he says, “and I have now lost 2 stone.  I can still enjoy my favourite tasty foods while eating healthily”.  The Glycaemic Index has been used by people with diabetes for years to regulate their blood sugar levels, but it’s recently become more widely adopted as a means of following a healthy diet.

“Start each day as you mean to continue.  My favourite choice is Burgen Soya & Linseed bread, which has a low GI rating and tastes great with peanut butter for breakfast.  If your chosen weight loss plan leaves you feeling hungry then it will be even more difficult to resist eating between meals.  GI eating promotes foods that raise your blood sugar slowly, so you won’t suffer from mid afternoon energy slumps that can leave you craving sugary snacks”.
